COMPLEXCON
(VERSATIONS)

VISUAL IDENTITY • MOTION DESIGN • SPATIAL DESIGN

ComplexCon is an annual weekend-long cultural festival that features the best in contemporary art, fashion, music, style, food, and more. Aside from the show floor, one of the major draws is the speaker panel series called ComplexCon(versations) that pairs top-tier talent with great moderators to dive into topics of import to the Complex audience.

For ComplexCon(versations), my partner Ryan and I designed a fragmented projection-mapped screen to frame an in-the-round set, with a unique look and color approach for each of the sixteen panels over the course of the weekend.

Guests have ranged from rap icons like Andre 3000 and Rick Ross to style luminaries like Hiroshi Fujiwara, Yoon Ambush, and Virgil Abloh, entertainers and movie stars like Michael B Jordan, Issa Rae, athletes and behind-the-scenes mavens across the board.

MOTION IDENTITY

The circular stage at the center of the setup is the main area of action for the conversations. The visual identity imagined the interchange of ideas and direction of conversation as lines pinging across and around the circle, rippling out to the audience, and providing a groundwork for the audience. A main diagram composed of circles, lines, and boxes, was then cut apart and re-animated to create a wide variety of kinetic animations that could be layered in a modular fashion to create dynamic intros, transitions, and reveals.
